About:    Four years ago, when it was time to return to the office after COVID, Lan decided that after eleven years, the corporate world wasn’t for her. She had grown up in a family-owned bakery with her seven siblings and parents, and the pull toward that kind of life never left her. She left her job in oil and gas and began contracting part-time with an amazing engineering firm as a procurement and project accountant. During that time, she also returned to help out at the bakery while figuring out what she truly wanted to do when she “grew up.”

At home, Lan and her husband Bill were raising their niece alongside their three children. With trauma training and support from Alberta Child Services, they successfully adopted her. Lan began dreaming of opening a cozy café—one that felt like home, and could be an extension of the family bakery. She envisioned a spot near a school, offering kids a safe space to land after class, an artisan market for local crafters to showcase their goods year-round, and a community hub where people could gather, connect, and make memories.

And now, it’s all happening. The kiddos stop in to share how their day went—and which teacher “wasn’t being fair.” The crafters have a home for their market. The lonely find companionship. Elders have a place to visit that feels like a warm, familiar living room. And new couples are meeting over lattes, falling in love over muffins.

All of it—fueled by a deep love for our Colombian and Guatemalan blended coffee. Medium-roasted right here in Calgary by Jade Roasters, and directly sourced from the farmers who grow it.
